eCOGRA (e-Commerce and Online Gaming Regulation and
Assurance) is a new service introduced by PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) with the principal aim of protecting and reassuring online players by providing
confirmation that the gaming at approved online casinos is fair,
winners are paid promptly and treated with honesty, and the operators are ethical. Gamblers will know they can trust any online gaming website displaying the eCOGRA seal of approval.
Mission
eCOGRA, as an independent body, will provide valuable player protection to consumers by confirming that gaming operators are
trustworthy, games are run fairly, players' deposits are safe and winnings are paid promptly.
Software Suppliers
eCOGRA accepts membership applications from suppliers of online
gaming software who share the ideal of fair and responsible online gambling.
Operators
To qualify for the eCOGRA seal, an online gaming
operator must hold a software license from an eCOGRA member, satisfy eCOGRA
that the online casino operations have been and will be undertaken in a highly
reputable way, and comply with eCOGRA's Generally Accepted Practices. These
practices, also called "eGAP", specify an all-embracing list of minimum
requirements and suggested practices with regard to the protection of players, fair gaming and responsible conduct by the operator. The eCOGRA constitution stipulates that only the independent directors of eCOGRA may decide if an operator meets the requirements for the seal.
Online Casinos
Online casinos have the right to display the eCOGRA seal of approval only if their operators have been approved by eCOGRA.
eCOGRA's Seal Practices and Objectives
The integrity of the eCOGRA seal hinges primarily on the following:
-
the degree to which operators and suppliers of software live up to the requirements; and
-
how effective are the procedures applied by the Audit
Panel firms to ensure that there is compliance with these requirements.
