Ryanair Proposes In-flight Gambling.
Michael O'Leary, chief executive Ryanair, Europe’s largest budget
airline, is optimistic about the potential role gambling may play
in his company's future business plans. He feels that the
addition of gambling facilities from independent gambling concerns
that are provided for passengers by the airlines, could result in a
massive transformation in the airline industry.
Ryanair is testing a new system, known as Digebox, as from
November. This is a new in-flight passenger entertainment package
that can be loaded with, and offer a on-board gambling system as
well. The financial return on such a facility could be
considerable enough to convince the airlines to introduce it.
It appears that Ryanair has flooded with proposals from gambling
concerns, including an Irish company known as Paddy Power, eager to
create an alliance that will allow passengers to gamble in transit!
The "Digebox"s to be tested would be loaded with the necessary
software. Passengers would be able to gamble using their credit
card, only once they were in international air space. Mr O’Leary
considers the imminent changes and advances in the industry, coupled
with the added revenue "in-transit" gambling would produce for the airline,
would also mean that flights could become “free for at least 50
% of people” flying Ryanair.
More Credit Card Bans in the U.K.
Following the lead of similar America companies over the past
couple of years, American Express and Citibank in the UK, have
decided this week, to also limit access to online gambling web sites for
their credit card users.
The 2 major credit card companies have stated, that their main
concern regards potential fraud, and the risks of their clients
incurring considerable debts.
This action has been viewed by many industry observers as being of
doubtful necessity and poor timing, as the UK gambling laws stand on
the verge of major reforms and revision.
