More Women Play Online

The findings of research conducted in to demographics and online gambling is that more women than men play at online casinos. As a consequence of this online businesses, particularly in the USA and Great Britain, are focusing their marketing campaigns at women.

The River City Group, a St Louis based company that conducts research and analysis into the online gambling industry found that more than 67% per cent of online gamblers are women. They explain this finding by showing that males prefer to go to land based casinos while females find this environment a bit overwhelming and prefer the comfort of their own homes.

NetImperative, a online market research company based in Great Britain, have found that only about 40% of online gamblers in the UK are female. But what is interesting is that they claim that more women than men are gambling online for the first time, implying that future growth in the industry will be driven by female gamblers. They site statistics showing that in March 2001, only 1,100 players at online casinos were female, however in 2002 that number had more than doubled. If this trend continues than female players will dominate the online gambling market place and will be a force to be reckoned with in this market place.
